magic at marina bay

Formula one fans around the world watched as Russell dominated for Mercedes whilst tensions rose between teammates at McLaren - but what else happened last weekend at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix? The weekend started strong for Aston Martin, with Fernando Alonso leading FP1, followed by Charles Leclerc for Ferrari and current 4-time world champion Max Verstappen for Redbull. FP2 was ruled by the current championship leader Oscar Piastri for McLaren, who was closely followed by rookie Isack Hadjar for Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, with Max Verstappen holding P3 once again. FP3 switched up the order once again, with Max Verstappen leading followed by Oscar Piastri in P2 and George Russell in P3. Saturday’s Qualifying saw George Russell take pole, setting the lap record around marina bay. He was followed by Max Verstappen, who was continuously on good form this weekend, with Oscar Piastri rounding off the top 3. The rookies were also showing strong performances on Saturday, with Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar and Ollie Bearman all making it to Q3, proving themselves as drivers to watch for the future. Both Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz for Williams were disqualified post-qualifying for illegal rear wings, setting them to the back of the grid at Albon’s home race. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri displayed instant teammate tension as the 5 red lights went out, with Norris overtaking both Antonelli and Piastri, who he made contact with, causing the usual radio drama for this team, with a usually cool, calm and collected Piastri saying “yeah, I mean that wasn’t very team like, but sure…”. The radio rampage continued at Aston Martin, with Alonso telling his race engineer “if you speak to me every lap, I will disconnect the radio.” Amidst all of the driver sass, George Russell dominated around the floodlit streets of Marina Bay, taking his 5th career win. He was joined on the podium by Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Podium celebrations were followed by Constructor’s Championship celebrations for McLaren, who clinched the title despite having 6 races remaining. The driver’s title is still all to play for, with only 22 points separating the McLaren drivers. Let's hope McLaren’s infamous “papaya rules” don’t cause any more turmoil than they already have, as fans will have to stay tuned to the season’s closing race in Abu Dhabi to watch this unfold.

PADDOCK FASHION - FRIEND OR FOE?

There has been endless debate over the impact of fashion and designer brands entering formula one as sponsorships for teams and drivers, however does this truly affect the sport? Multiple teams and drivers have partnerships with clothing brands or designer brands, such as Mercedes, who had a 6-year long partnership with Tommy Hilfiger from 2018 until the end of 2024, and now have a multi-year partnership deal with Adidas. McLaren has a partnership with Reiss, including their own clothing line in collaboration with the brand. Alongside this, McLaren driver Lando Norris is the face of Ralph Lauren fragrance’s Polo Red campaign. Sponsorships such as these bring in large sums of money for teams and drivers, promoting their brands within the sport, and bringing new fans into the sport from the brands promoting the teams and drivers they sponsor. Sir Lewis Hamilton is iconic in both the fashion world and in the sport itself, and as well as being known for his 7 world championships, he is recognised as an important figure in the fashion industry, and was a co-chair at the 2025 MET Gala. He was also the first driver to bring fashion into the sport more prominently, making media days and the paddock his own personal catwalk. The wives and girlfriends of formula one drivers are some of the most glamorous and fashionable people in the paddock. Alexandra Saint Mieux is an ambassador for Rhode beauty, Hailey Bieber’s billion-dollar business. Carmen Montero Mundt is partnered with Tommy Hilfiger, arriving at the paddock in classy and stylish outfits, from elegant maxi dresses to a more casual yet tasteful shirt and trousers look. Many influencers attend grand prix’s despite lacking knowledge of the sport, bringing more attention to formula one and an influx of new fans from influencers posts and stories trackside. Overall, fashion has a positive influence for formula one, and brings valuable attention and funds to teams, drivers, and the sport in general.

CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO SEE THE WHOLE NEWSPAPER Created by the poor; stolen by the rich. Greed over Glory Since 2001, Daniel Levy has brought nothing but failure during his tenure as chairman, minimal investment, transfer blunders and disastrous managerial appointments have all brewed and culminated a culture of failure and acceptance for the clubs lacklustre performances. The club currently sits in 16th and is on course to record one of its worst league finishes since the inception of the premier league. From champions league finals to relegation scraps. Whats gone wrong for Levys Tottenham? Naïve tactics mixed with poor signings may point towards the failures this league season, however looking deeper it’s much more the just that, whilst the club itself is one of the richest clubs in the world the ownership has only put in £120m of their own money of which includes a £97.5 million share issues with the majority of transfers being funded by freed up wages and cash made by selling players, whilst their rivals pull away with clubs like Aston villa (whose owners have put in £600 million), Newcastle and Arsenal pushing for silverware; Spurs now more than ever only seem interested in monetary gain, with the stadium being branded as a multipurpose entertainment venue.

The Final Whistle With Molly is a football column that delves into the behind the scenes of Ipswich Wanderers and also looks into other topics across the sport. It also looks at Tottenham and Ipswich Town relating back to the social media pages "The Final Whistle with Molly". It takes pride in showing young girls that football is changing and although it is still predominantly male based, women in football media are more common than they may think.

British truck racing

BY MIA

I never imagined lorries racing around a track would actually be something I see in person. Well...I did! I attended the British Truck Racing Championship on Sunday at Snetterton and it was definitely an experience. BTRC attended Snetterton alongside the British Endurance Championship, Classic Touring Car Racing Club and the Britcar Trophy which if you ask me, are very funny series to be racing alongside the massive powerful trucks in the main series. Now I've turned 16 I pay adults prices for all events but this year I've had a season pass so getting into the track was longer. Lots of people book in advance to save the extra charge on the gate so the line of cars to get in was fairly long, even if we did arrive later than usual in an attempt to skip it. I would definitely advise arriving at the track early if you want a good spot, especially for headline events. The trucks entered the track through a separate cornered off place next to their paddock as they did not use the pit lane. This meant if you got caught out walking somewhere towards the end of the session, often you would have to wait as the trucks navigated to and from their garages or the marshals gated off areas to allow the support series to get to Parc Ferme without going around the whole track. Lots of people got caught off guard with this, including me as I've never attended an event where this has happened! The truck racing was a 6/10 event for me. Their lap times are around 3-4 minutes so they only do a few laps per race! The surge into Turn One is always eventful on the opening lap and often ended in a long red flag when the safety team had to get two trucks out of the gravel but that's just racing! These drivers in the big vehicles are much less afraid of contact, and for a good reason. At Snetterton I always find myself on the hill at Palmer. You can watch the start/finish straight and Turn 1, then turn around for the cars to disappear briefly but then you can witness most of Palmer, Oggies, Hamilton and Williams, it's a great spot! I tend to move around to different locations to get photos but if you are attending for viewing purposes, it's definitely the spot. The toilets are only a few minutes walk along with Parc Ferme just around the corner as well as the podium. We didn't get to watch the endurance racing due to them not racing on a Sunday but the classic cars and britcars were fun to watch. It's definitely something different and entertaining for anyone who loves motorsport! Maybe not if you're not into it though, there's definitely things earlier in the year which provide more speed and entertainment! The atmosphere at Snetterton is always something I can enjoy. Often I bump into family or friends of drivers there to support, photographers or unexpected people I know like this weekend my friend and I got to meet Ian Waterhouse from the BARC. You never quite know who you might see. For any motorsport lovers thinking of attending a BTRC event, I would say go for it if you're into a variety of racing! It's always a good day out with lots of racing, food, atmosphere and champagne spraying if you head down to the podiums in time. I had a great weekend, coming back with over 450 photos! Get down to a track to watch next year, and don't worry about safety, the marshals and tracks add extra measures to ensure the racing can ensue smoothly.
